Why We Do What We Do
As Hollywood recalibrates and migrates production powerhouses to Texas, the state is experiencing a historic shift. Texas has already committed $200 million in its most recent legislative session (2023-24 biennium) to expanding its Film, TV, and Multimedia Incentives Program, with cities like Dallas, Austin, and Fort Worth at the forefront of infrastructure investment.
Economic analysts forecast a $1.5-2 billion boom in new studio development, content creation hubs, and workforce pipelines across the next 5 years.
Yet within this cultural and economic gold rush, one truth remains painfully clear:
Only 18.3% of below-the-line crew members across U.S. film productions are Black or Latinx, despite those communities representing nearly 43% of the population.
Above-the-line leadership (writers, directors, producers) is even more inequitable: less than 12% of top creative positions in film are held by Black or Brown professionals, according to the 2023 UCLA Hollywood Diversity Report.
Luxor's REEL2REAL Initiative which exists to intervene directly at this inflection point, not just as an arts initiative, but as an economic equity engine.
Through The Luxor Society, we train underserved Black and Brown youth in real industry roles not as background characters, but as producers, directors, editors, sound engineers, and royalty-earning contributors to projects that are publicly distributed through Monte Carlo Street Productions, LLC. With Texas poised to become the next capital of American film production, Luxor ensures that students of color are not left behind in their own backyards.
